MINERAL MONDAY: RUBY

MINERAL MONDAY: RUBY

In a time that lacks any real sense of structure, I have been calling on stones that offer me support harnessing and directing my energy efficiently and intentionally. It is so easy for me to be all over the place when I don’t have my regular deadlines and I’ve honestly had a hard time staying focused and on track in the past few months. I’ve been working extra close with ruby recently for the structure, guidance, and flow of life force that it brings..

Ruby is a red or purple variety of corundum, a crystalline aluminum oxide often found with traces of iron (hematite). The other variety of corundum is sapphire which features green and blue hues. Both have a trigonic crystal structure that will frequently manifest in the hexagonal shape reminiscent of an ancient coin, a relic from the past. Most ruby forms in India and is a darker red or purple hue. Bright pink and red rubies come from Madagascar.

In the first century AD, Roman scholar Pliny wrote about rubies in his Natural History. The Bible mentions rubies four times in association with beauty and wealth. In Sanskrit, ruby or ratnaraj translates to “king of jewels'“. In Burma (now Myanmar) warriors would insert rubies INTO their flesh for ultimate protection during battle. Throughout the medieval, renaissance, and victorian eras rubies were highly sought after by the European upper class. They were worn to ensure wealth, health, wisdom, and success in love. Rubies have had a rich history where spiritual teachers, warriors, and the upper class alike have all sensed something powerful in these special stones.

Much like the clarity and structure that fluorite offers us, rubies work to align your heart and higher chakras so that you can lean into the unknown with a little more confidence and trust. They encourage creative problem solving and general mental functions that will assist you on your path. Rubies help you understand the impact that your mental state has on the reality you create for yourself, reframing will as a force of love, reminding you to put the energy into life that you want back from it.

Rubies stimulate the heart chakra with a vivid, intense, glowing red energy full of pure life force. They bring light to the darkest corners of your heart and shadow, sparking a little glow that you can grow into a raging fire. Rubies guide energy where it is needed most, even if you don’t always know exactly where that is. They want to help you realize and nurture your truest passions. There is an expansiveness ruby brings, a sort of self realization where your path presents itself a little more clear and all you have to do is focus your energy on each step.

Rubies offer a big magnetic quality that is helpful for those focused on manifesting desires into reality. They remind you of your personal power and your ability to achieve and receive all that you deserve. The first step in manifestation is believing you are worthy and envisioning yourself exactly where you want to be as if you are already there. Pairing ruby with rose quartz while setting your intentions is a powerful combination that works to attract people and opportunities that will nurture and help your heart grow. While it is definitely a stone of big energy and action, it also encourages finding and nurturing the love in all relationships.

A constant current of powerful clear energy will flow around you at all times, keep a ruby close to protect you from psychic and physical harm while attracting opportunity and abundance. This protective energy is effective at neutralizing nightmares and upsetting dreams, stimulating a lucid state where you are more aware and in control of your consciousness.

Sometimes, rubies and sapphires will feature raised or sunken triangle formations known as record keepers. These are only seen in corundums and quartz. They are said to be programmed with ancient knowledge from those who worked with them. A lot of rubies come from India and are thought to contain lessons and guidance from the great teachers of the past. Record keepers stimulate a connection to guides and messages programmed into an energy or a stone, especially when you are in a dream or meditative state.

key words: STRUCTURE | LIFE FORCE | MANIFESTATION | PERSONAL POWER

when you might want some ruby handy:

  • if you are feeling a little lacking in direction and need some guidance

  • when you want to manifest your passions and desires into reality

  • if you have upsetting dreams and want some insight and control over them

  • if you feel your energy is being misplaced or wasted and need some structure

I like to address my collection regularly and see if anything jumps out at me — if something does then I like to take a moment to think about its properties (often I refer to my crystal books or even a quick google is helpful). When I am able to resonate with the properties of a stone that has caught my attention, I am in tune with its energy and it is in tune with mine. This practice also helps you grow your working knowledge of the stones!! There is so much to it and it is easy to get overwhelmed. If you take it day by day, crystal by crystal, it comes to you.

Thank you for tuning in to Mineral Monday! If you have any preferences on stones I should write about next or any general blog content you would like to see reach out to hello@thecypruscabinet.com!!
